We get a moment of a reality. A reality about eight young girls. We feel that they are connected and we see them as a unit. A community. They are approximately the same age, dancing and thinking together, and they could look a bit similar.
But our perspective is limited. And as when you look through a keyhole and can´t see the full picture, we are curious about the meaning of it all.
Hendrik Lebon, Belgium choreographer and dancer (amongst others in Les ballets C de la B)
Hendrik Lebon grew up with theater and dance in the Belgian theater Kopergietery – with Eva Bal as banner-bearer. From here he chose to go ahead with professional performer training. In 2005 he graduated with modern dance from Fontys Dance Academy in Holland and received at the same time Jacques De Leeuw Top Young Talent price. Hendrik Lebon then worked for various companies in Belgium and abroad, alongside developing his own work. Hendrik Lebon has been in the performances Chalk About the Company Curious Seed in Edinburgh directed by Christine Devaney (which Roskilde-audiences might remember from performances during SWOP festival). And he dances at the internationally renowned company Les ballets C de la B, the Royal Ballet in Flandern amongst others.
Back on the child and youth theatre Kopergietery in Ghent, Hendrik Lebon has now created performances with Eva Bal – also with children and young people on stage. Kopergietery is among other things distinguished by an artistic practice and tradition of involving and staging “ordinary people” and develop their personality and expression in an artistic scenic frame – high quality.
Royal Wolves
The music in “WHAT DO YOU THINK?” is made and recorded by Hendrik Lebon´s own band Royal Wolves. An experimental band with 6 members, that play and dance with a mix of jazz, pop, funk and blues – visually shaped by a good part of performative elements. (Members: Hendrik Lebon, Steve De Schepper, Tom van der Schueren, Witse Lemmens, Lies Vandeburie).
Cause what do you actually think about as a young person? And what do you consider about … .. it all?
In WHAT DO YOU THINK? Aaben Dans couples Belgian scene force and Danish young people aged 13 – 18 years on stage in dance and performance. A performance that focuses on a selected group of young people’s thoughts on anything and everything – added a twist of choreographer Hendrik Lebon´s own distorted thinking.
